RIP Ryan Dunn: Lover Of Danger And Fast Cars

Ryan Dunn wasn’t like all of the other Jackass guys. Sure, he drank too much, did crazy stunts, and sometimes dressed like a hobo, but there was something about the way he did things that set him apart from everyone else. It’s that same something that made Ryan most people’s, myself included, favorite member of the stunt team. It’s that same something; that look in his eyes, that reluctance in his voice, that matter-of-fact regret/relief after the job was done; that made people like me relate to, and root for him. While the other guys in the group were impossible to relate to, almost Looney Tunes like characters, Dunn was me. Dunn was you. Dunn was every semi-tough kid that ever did something stupid for the good of the group. He always knew he shouldn’t be doing the things he was doing, and where it seemed like his cohorts never thought ahead, it seemed he always knew the consequences. He just did whatever crazy stunt was put in front of him because he was the ultimate team player, willing to sacrifice himself to make the others laugh, and willing to risk it all just to not let his friends down. Although his crew was far more fearless than he, perhaps his willingness to recognize consequences and do the deed anyway made him the toughest of them all, and it’s perhaps that same willingness that led to his unfortunate demise. Although his possibly alcohol related death behind the wheel is in no way condoned by this blog, we have to remember that we all make mistakes, some are just far worse than others. So don’t remember Ryan Dunn as the guy that crashed his car, remember him as the guy that made us laugh. Look at these pictures of his BMW collection (as well as some of his other rides) and remember him as the guy that loved Bimmers so much that he had the symbol tattooed on his arm and opened his own BMW tuning shop. Remember him as a guy so dedicated to his brand that probably his only regret was that he went down in a Porsche. More importantly though, remember him as the reluctant team player that we all know we are, and most importantly, remember him fondly.

The Porsche that he took his last ride in.
