Steve Jobs, the recently deceased founder of Apple Computers was known as a cutthroat businessman, an innovator (Steve contributed to the creation of the iPad, iPhone, iPod etc), and just an overall savvy dude. Contributing to his legend even after his death, is his lack of license plate on his car, and his clever way to get away with it. Always one for privacy, Jobs decided that he didn’t want a license plate on his silver Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG, so he didn’t get one when he purchased the car in 2007…ever. Finding a loophole in California state law that precludes a car owner from needing a license plate during the first six months of ownership, Jobs merely decided that he’d only own his car for six months at a time. Sources are unsure whether he was leasing new SL55s every time, or whether he was selling and re-leasing his own every time, but every six months he would take his preferred ride back to the Mercedes dealer and sign a new lease agreement, thus keeping him from ever needing plates.
